When Is The Best Time To Put Up A New Bird House ?
Bird Houses should be put up long before the breeding season. This could be in the late part of summer and into fall. This gives the wild birds a chance to find and get use to the new bird houses in their area. It is a better idea to leave the bird houses up all year long so they can be used as a shelter in bad winter weather. It will be best if you clean out your bird houses after the breeding season has ended (which will be next fall for this new bird house). A safe time to do this could be mid fall. Remove all of the nesting materials and wash out the bird house with a mixture of 1 part house hold bleach mixed with 10 parts of water. This will kill any bacteria that may harm the birds in the seasons to come. Then rinse the house out with just water after that. If you have taken the bird house down, then let it dry good before putting it up again, as a winter shelter for your wild birds. By: B.B.E.

This is a growing family of Cardinals I discovered nesting in my backyard. I arrived home one day to find a tiny baby Cardinal chirping up at me. Its two siblings soon appeared, joining together in song. Eventually their parents arrived to serve them dinner. The family is growing healthily and has now migrated to another backyard.

When visiting a neighbor’s backyard bird garden this summer I noticed how her bird garden decor and garden lay out visibly added something magical to the entire bird garden experience. The beautiful bird feeders, decorative birdhouses, bubbling birdbath fountain, and sculptures created a peaceful and relaxing area that seemed to pull me into the garden and make me feel totally at ease. She also had placed two bench seats in the garden, to sit and relax and enjoy watching the colorful wild birds. Which we did while I was visiting with her. I have learned threw the things that have happened in my life, that the special decorative items that a backyard bird lover adds to their garden will be worth their weight in gold.
